چکیده

Introduction: Isolated stem fractures have been reported for total elbow replacements (TER) and are most frequently associated with 1) younger patients with high activity levels and 2) poor boney support conditions associated with post-traumatic arthritis [1-4]. No international test standards exist to evaluate fatigue strength of humeral and ulnar stems of a TER. Therefore, a test method was developed here to characterize the fatigue strength of the Coonrad/Morrey (C/M) Total Elbow (Zimmer, Inc.) and validate results against retrieved C/M stem components. The method was further utilized to characterize the fatigue strength of the NexelTM Total Elbow (Zimmer, Inc.) humeral and ulnar stems (Figure 1).

Survivorship of the KUDO total elbow prosthesis--comparative study of cemented and uncemented ulnar components: 89 cases followed for an average of 6 years.

BACKGROUND The Kudo total elbow prosthesis (TEP) is a well-established implant with good mid-term results. The ulnar component can be placed with or without cement, and the humeral component is normally placed without cement. METHODS 89 Kudo type-5 total elbow prostheses were evaluated after a mean follow-up of 6 (1.7-11) years. The indication for joint replacement was rheumatoid arthritis in...

Primary Souter-Strathclyde total elbow prosthesis in rheumatoid arthritis. Surgical technique.

BACKGROUND Total elbow arthroplasty is a well-established treatment for the painful elbow joint in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. We present the results of what we believe to be the first prospective study of the Souter-Strathclyde total elbow prosthesis. METHODS Between June 1982 and December 2000, 204 primary total elbow prostheses were inserted in 166 patients who had rheumatoid arthr...

The History and Future of Unlinked Total Elbow Arthroplasty.

Unlinked total elbow arthroplasty (TEA), which has no mechanical connection between the humeral and ulnar components, has theoretical advantages based on its near-normal elbow kinematics and the preservation of bone stock. Unlinked TEA is appropriate only for patients who have limited bone loss or limited deformity and good ligamentous function. This is because postoperative instability has bee...

Ultrasound-guided Percutaneous Medial Pinning of Pediatric Supracondylar Humeral Fractures to Avoid Ulnar Nerve Injury.

Background:  Medial pinning is one of the most controversial aspects of the surgical treatment of supracondylar fractures (SHF) owing to the risk of ulnar nerve injury.  Aim: To evaluate the safety and usefulness of medial pinning for SHF using ultrasound imaging for ulnar nerve visualization.   Methods: Fifteen children, with a mean age of 60 months, with displaced SHF were treated with a cros...

Souter-Strathclyde total elbow arthroplasty: medium-term results.

The Souter-Strathclyde unconstrained elbow prosthesis was prospectively studied in 36 patients (45 prostheses) with rheumatoid arthritis (Larsen grade 4 and grade 5). The mean age of the patients at the time of operation was 63 years (range: 39 to 75 years). Eight patients (9 prostheses) died within five years of implantation, from causes unrelated to the elbow arthroplasty. One patient was los...
